University Expelled Me Based on a False Report — Help Fund My Appeal

By Thomas Hartley · Portland, OR

I was a third-year computer science student at a Pacific Northwest university. In February 2024, I was expelled following a Title IX complaint that contained provably false statements about an encounter that allegedly occurred at an off-campus party I have witnesses confirming I did not attend.

The university's disciplinary process denied me the right to cross-examine evidence or present exculpatory witnesses, which violates the 2022 Title IX regulations. A federal court recently ruled in a nearly identical case that such procedures are unconstitutional.

I have retained a higher education attorney who has filed a formal appeal and is preparing litigation against the university. I was three semesters from graduation. I had a 3.8 GPA and a software internship lined up. This false accusation — if left unchallenged — will follow me forever. Help me fight it.
